Vanitas art of the 17th century was all about decay. The finity of life and the significance of human existance. Vanitas.jpg follows this traditon. By resaving a masterpiece of vanitas still life art as JPEG over and over again the original picture disappears and shows a picture all constisting of compression artifacts. In a time of literally endless digital memory there is no reason for data to decay. But is being able to save every information for unlimited time a legitimate reason to do so? This work is a call for the right of digital decay.
